Lubbock, the time has come to make a choice—not just for today, but for generations of students, families, and community members to come.
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, we have the chance to say YES to safer schools, stronger programs, smarter spending, and a brighter future for Lubbock ISD. Proposition A isn’t just another bond. It’s a bold, forward-thinking plan to elevate our schools without raising the current tax rate.
This is more than numbers on a ballot—it’s about what kind of community we want to be. And if you believe in growth, safety, opportunity, and excellence for all of Lubbock, this is a moment to take action.
💥 What Is Proposition A?
Proposition A is a $290 million bond proposal designed to address real needs in Lubbock ISD schools—aging buildings, outdated infrastructure, limited career training space, and growing student populations—all while keeping the current school tax rate exactly where it is.
Let that sink in: Massive improvement. Zero increase in the tax rate.
It’s a plan crafted by people who care about our kids, our schools, and our city’s long-term success. The bond focuses on four major priorities:
🔒 1. Safe & Secure Schools ($17 million)
Every child deserves to feel safe at school—and every parent deserves peace of mind. This part of the bond invests in:
- Modern fire alarms and emergency systems
- Reinforced entrances and controlled access points
- High-resolution security cameras and improved fencing
These updates go far beyond compliance—they’re about creating spaces where students can focus, teachers can teach, and safety is never in question.
🏗️ 2. Modern, Efficient Campuses ($151 million)
Some of our elementary schools are over 60 years old. That’s not just outdated—that’s holding us back.
Proposition A would replace six aging campuses with three brand-new, state-of-the-art elementary schools, combining:
- Wolffarth + McWhorter
- Bean + Hodges
- Williams + Stewart
These aren’t just buildings—they’re investments in modern learning, built from the ground up to meet today’s standards and tomorrow’s dreams.
They’ll be safer, more energy-efficient, easier to navigate, and cheaper to maintain. It’s smart planning with a long-term payoff.
🎓 3. Expanded Academics & Career Programs ($47 million)
Our kids are talented, creative, and full of potential. But they need the tools to get ahead in today’s world. This bond delivers:
- New and updated science labs, fine arts facilities, and maker spaces
- Expanded Career & Technical Education (CTE) centers, including:
- Culinary Arts
- Health Professions
- Welding
- STEM programs
- Technology labs
We’re not just preparing students to graduate—we’re preparing them to lead, to build, to heal, to invent. This is how we keep our talent here in Lubbock.
🔧 4. Critical Repairs & Infrastructure ($75 million)
Behind every great classroom is a building that works.
Unfortunately, many of our schools are dealing with aging HVAC systems, plumbing issues, roof leaks, and electrical systems long past their prime. This bond tackles those problems head-on.
- New heating and cooling systems
- Repaired roofing and plumbing
- Updated electrical and safer parking areas
When we fix the foundation, we give teachers and students the comfort and stability they need to thrive.
💰 What About Taxes?
It’s true that ballot language in Texas must include wording about a property tax increase—even when the actual tax rate doesn’t go up.
Let’s be clear:
➡️ Proposition A will not raise the school district tax rate.
✅ Lubbock ISD has structured this bond within its current financial plan.
📈 The only factor that might impact your tax bill is your home’s appraised value (set by the Lubbock Central Appraisal District, not the school district).
So yes—this is a big investment, without a tax rate hike. That’s smart, responsible leadership.
